Chicago Tribune: Happy but painful debut for White Sox outfielder Jason Coats

Jason Coats said he is not one to be very emotional, but when Triple-A Charlotte manager Julio Vinas called him into his office Friday, Coats broke out in “the biggest smile I think I’ve had in a long time.”
The outfielder made his major-league debut with the White Sox in left field on Saturday, but his smile turned to a grimace in the seventh inning when he collided with center fielder J.B. Shuck while making a catch.
Shuck’s shoulder caught Coats in the face, and he left the game with a bloody mouth, which required stitches, and a dazed look on his face. He walked and was hit by a pitch in his first two major-league plate appearances before that and is considered day to day after passing concussion tests.
“It kind of stinks I had to come out of the game, but I feel fine,” Coats said. “I just needed some stitches, just bleeding a little bit, but I should be good to go.” …
