OKLAHOMA CITY — Luken Baker’s third home run of the Big 12 Championships helped power TCU past Texas as it posted an 8-2 victory over the Longhorns Saturday afternoon. The Horned Frogs will face West Virginia with the tournament title on the line Sunday.

The Rundown
The combination of Brian Howard and Brian Trieglaff did yeoman’s work on the mound as they combined to hold Texas to a pair of runs on nine hits. Howard (7-2) allowed two runs on six hits, walked two and struck out five. Trieglaff surrendered just four hits and struck out two in three innings to pick up his fourth save of the season.

Texas took an early 1-0 lead in the third inning after taking advantage of a lead-off single from Jake McKenzie. A two-out base hit from Patrick Mathis put the Longhorns up 1-0.

TCU responded in its half of the third. Michael Landestoy opened the inning with his first of three hits in the game. He moved to third on a base hit from Evan Skoug and scored on a looping line drive from Baker to tie the game at one.

Another lead-off batter reached for Texas in the fourth as it once again took a one-run lead, 2-1. Kacey Clemens scored on a Brett Boswell sacrifice fly.

In the fifth, Cam Warner opened the frame with a base hit. An error allowed Skoug to reach to put the go-ahead runs on base. Facing a 1-2 count, Baker launched his seventh home run of the season out of Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark to put the Frogs up 4-2.

TCU tacked on three more runs in the sixth to extend its lead to five. Back-to-back walks to Austen Wade and Warner had the Frogs in business. Evan Skoug bounced a single up the middle to drive in Wade. Baker followed with his third hit of the game to make it a 6-2 game. Elliott Barzilli beat out a double play ball to drive in the final run of the inning.

Barzilli’s RBI-double in the eighth accounted for the final score.
