TCU’s Luken Baker reluctantly ditched a significant part of his season on a Friday night in Stillwater.

The other part, the part where Baker does damage with his bat, remains relevant.

The big Horned Frog keeps impacting TCU wins, even after leaving his role as staff ace, an exit from the rotation spurred by a painful pitch against Oklahoma State on April 22. Baker, who was 3-1 with a 1.70 earned run average at the time, hasn’t pitched since and won’t again this season.

Yet as the Frogs’ designated hitter and The Oklahoman’s Big 12 Freshman of the Year, the 6-foot-4, 265-pound Baker remains a force, batting .340 with four home runs and 43 runs batted in out of the cleanup spot for the nation’s No. 11 team. …
