It must be the long layoff between spring football and August that produces the same familiar refrain every year.
Conference expansion is back, but should it be?
Apparently the Big 12 is discussing the possibility of adding two more teams to get to 12 — not so a conference with 12 in the title actually has 12 teams — but to make sure it has a better chance to get a team in the College Football Playoff.
The Big 12 has heard it ad nauseum that it needs to have 12 teams to have a legitimate argument to be included in the four-team playoff at the end of the season.
After all, the other four Power-5 leagues have at least 12 teams, and all have a football conference championship game. …
