GoFrogs: Skoug Semifinalist For Johnny Bench Award
FORT WORTH — Evan Skoug has been named one of 15 semifinalists for the Johnny Bench Award presented to the nation’s top collegiate catcher.
Skoug has played in all 49 games this season, making 48 starts. The sophomore is hitting .302 and ranks third in the Big 12 with a team-leading 17 doubles. He has tied his career high with seven home runs and is one of three Horned Frogs with 40 RBIs on the season.
Defensively, Skoug boasts a .989 fielding percentage and has helped the Horned Frog pitching staff post a 3.26 ERA. He’s thrown out 33 percent of base stealers this season.
Skoug is one of two Big 12 catchers named as semifinalists along with Kansas’ Michael Tinsley.
