GoFrogs: Ronnie Baker Named Big 12 Performer of the Year
FORT WORTH – Ronnie Baker was named the Men’s Big 12 Outstanding Performer of the Year, the conference announced Thursday.
The postseason honors were selected by the league’s head coaches following the Big 12 Outdoor Championship.
Baker, who took home gold at the indoor Big 12 and NCAA championships this year, clocked in with the fastest time in the 100 meters at the Big 12 Outdoor Track and Field Championship to cap the final conference meet of his career. The two-time national champion crossed the finish line in first place with a time of 10.15 seconds – one-tenth of a second faster than second place. The latest hardware addition was the fourth Big 12 gold medal of his career.
The Louisville, Ky. native began his final collegiate outdoor season with an impressive wind-aided time of 9.95 in his first 100-meter dash of the year. His time leads the NCAA for 2016. From there, Baker went on to earn a third-place finish in the 100 meters against a field of professional and international athletes at the Texas Relays. The senior also anchored the 4×100-meter relay team as they placed first at 39.08, good for seventh in the NCAA. Baker was named the Most Outstanding Performer of the Texas Relays.
Since the beginning of the year, Baker has remained on the Bowerman Watch List. The Bowerman is the most prestigious individual honor in the sport of track and field, awarded to the most outstanding male and female collegiate track & field athletes in the nation.
For the 2015-16 campaign, Baker has garnered the following awards/achievements:
