GoFrogs: Two Frogs on Lott IMPACT Trophy Watch List

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. — TCU graduate student Josh Carraway and senior James McFarland have been named to the watch list for the 2016 Lott IMPACT Trophy.

Named after Pro Football Hall of Famer Ronnie Lott, the Lott IMPACT Trophy recognizes the nation’s top defensive player in terms of his impact on and off the field.

TCU is one of just seven schools with more than one player on the watch list.

Carraway, who received his TCU degree in criminal justice earlier this month, is the lone returning defensive player in the Big 12 who was a first-team all-conference selection last season.

The Flower Mound, Texas, native led the Horned Frogs in 2015 with nine sacks, three fumble recoveries and nine quarterback hurries. His 11 1/2 tackles for loss were second on the team to Denzel Johnson (13 1/2). Carraway totaled 47 stops while adding two pass breakups and a forced fumble.

Carraway has scored a defensive touchdown in each of the last two seasons. He had a 56-yard fumble return against Baylor in 2015 after a 33-yard pick six at Texas in 2014. He had a career-best game last season at Oklahoma with eight tackles, including 3 1/2 for loss, with 2 1/2 sacks.

McFarland, who missed the 2015 season due to injury, was the 2014 Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl Defensive Most Valuable Player after the 42-3 win over Ole Miss. He had an interception in the end zone for a touchdown in addition to totaling two tackles for loss, including a sack.

A native of West Monroe, La., McFarland led TCU with seven sacks in 2014. His 12 tackles for loss placed second. He also tied for the team lead with three forced fumbles while totaling 41 stops on the year.

TCU two-time consensus first-team All-America defensive end Jerry Hughes was the 2009 Lott IMPACT Trophy recipient.
