GoFrogs: Books Eagles No. 18, Tied for 3rd

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — TCU senior Ryan Books recorded an eagle on the par-5, 544-yard 18th hole Monday to move into a tie for third at two-under par after the first day of the NCAA Albuquerque Regional at UNM Championship Course.

Books, who picked up his first collegiate win at TCU at the El Macero Classic, had two birdies and two bogeys before ending the round with a 3 on the par 5.

Teammates Chelso Barrett and Paul Barjon, who tied for second at the Big 12 Championships, are tied for 16th after carding one-over par 73s, while Giulio Castagnara (T40) and Pierre Mazier (T60) shot rounds of 76 and 78, respectively.

As a team, the Horned Frogs are in fifth with a five-over par 292. TCU stands just two shots out of third behind USC (291) and Texas Tech (291). Arizona State, the only team to shoot under par, leads by three shots over South Florida, which shot one-over par.

Arizona State’s Jon Rahm and South Florida’s Rigel Fernandez each fired a three-under par 69 to stand all square atop the player leaderboard.

The top five teams from each of the nation’s six regional sites will advance to compete at the NCAA Championship that will be held May 27 through June 1 at Eugene Country Club in Eugene, Oregon. In addition to those teams, the top individual finisher not on one of the advancing squads will also earn a bid to compete at nationals.

The Horned Frogs begin Round 2 on hole No. 1 at 8:20 a.m. MT with USC and San Diego State. Live scoring can be followed at www.golfstat.com.
