GoFrogs: TCU’s Powers Past Baylor, 7-3

Final Stats

WACO, Texas – A three-run seventh inning highlighted by a Luken Baker home run helped TCU to a 7-3 victory over Baylor Sunday afternoon at Baylor Ballpark.

The Rundown
Baylor’s Matt Menard put the Bears in front 1-0 with a two-out solo home run in the first. Dane Steinhagen answered the home run with his sixth of the season in the third to tie the game at one.

TCU took its first lead of the game in the fourth inning. Baker worked his second walk of the game and moved to third on a Josh Watson base hit. A balk call against Baylor starter Kyle Hill allowed Baker to score for a 2-1 lead.

Baylor used another two-out rally in the sixth to tie the game. A pair of wild pitches allowed Steve McLean to score to tie the game at two. With the go-ahead run at second, Durbin Feltman (2-0) came on to get the final out of the inning.

The Frogs wasted little time regaining the advantage. Ryan Merrill opened the seventh with a base hit and stole second. Following an Austen Wade bunt single, an errant pick-off throw to first allowed Merrill to score for a 3-2 lead. Two batters later, Baker launched his fourth home run of the season to make it a 5-2 game.

Baylor got a run back in the bottom of the inning and had the bases loaded with two out, but Feltman got Menard looking to end inning.

TCU picked up a pair of insurance runs in the eighth. With two in scoring position and two out, Wade lined a single into left field to push the TCU advantage to four, 7-3.

Jared Janczak allowed two runs on two hits, walked four and struck out four in his first career start. Feltman earned the win in relief with 2 1/3 innings of work. Drew Gooch retired all three batters he faced in the ninth.
