Final Stats

WACO, Texas – TCU brought the tying run to the plate in the ninth, but couldn’t overcome eight two-out runs from Baylor in an 8-5 loss on Saturday.

The Rundown
TCU was held in check for the first seven innings, but found its bats in the final two innings, eventually bringing the tying run to the plate with one out in the ninth inning.

The Bears took a 1-0 lead in the third, taking advantage of a lead-off double. Matt Menard’s two-out double put Baylor in front. A two-out double from Kameron Esthay broke the game open as two runs scored to make it a 3-0 game. In the sixth, a two-out defensive miscue led to four unearned Baylor runs.

TCU scratched across its first two runs of the game on three hits. Elliott Barzilliopened the inning with a base hit and moved to second on a walk to Josh Watson.Dane Steinhagen put the Frogs on the board with a base hit to right. Mason Hessemade it a 7-2 ballgame with a single to left. Baylor reliever Joe Heineman came on in relief and retired three straight to get out of the inning.

Facing a six-run deficit heading to the top of the ninth, TCU mounted a furious rally. With one out, Luken Baker worked a walk to start the rally. Barzilli singled and Josh Watson walked to load the bases. Baker scored on an error and Hesse doubled home two more runs to make it an 8-5 game. The Bears went to their closer and he retired the next two batters to close out the game.
