DMN: TCU signee throws no-hitter as Coppell advances

TCU signee Charles King worked around eight walks and threw a no-hitter as the Coppell baseball team won its Class 6A Region I area-round playoff series with a 6-1 victory over McKinney Boyd in Game 3 on Saturday.

Coppell (31-2), ranked No. 2 in the nation by MaxPreps.com, advanced to play Flower Mound in the regional quarterfinals. Coppell was No. 1 and Flower Mound was No. 6 in SportsDay’s final 6A area rankings.

King threw 112 pitches, according to Coppell’s GameChanger box score, and he struck out five. He walked four hitters in the top of the seventh as Boyd (23-12-1) scored its only run, but he got a groundout with the bases loaded to end the game.

Cody Masters doubled, tripled, scored a run and had an RBI for the state’s No. 1-ranked team. Dallas Baptist signee Ray Gaither and Marco Navarro each added two hits for Coppell, and Gaither drove in a run. …
