Losing a legend is never easy.
These individuals seem to transcend the bounds of mortality, inspiring greatness wherever they go with a larger-than-life quality. If there’s one phrase most often used to describe Texas football legend Chuck Curtis, it’s just that: larger than life.
A star quarterback for the TCU Horned Frogs, iconic Texas high school football coach and beloved mentor and friend to countless admirers, Curtis left this world early Monday morning at a Weatherford care facility after battling a lengthy illness. He was 80 years old. Even still his influence looms large over North Texas and beyond.
Even in his old age, Curtis was a sight to behold. Chuck Curtis looked like Texas. His broad-brimmed cowboy hat capped a giant frame, shading a face that was always highlighted by an indomitable smile.
