Final Stats

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – Four runs in the final two innings helped TCU complete the sweep of Penn State with a 9-5 victory on Sunday.

The Rundown
TCU had opportunities to score in each of the first two innings, but strong defensive plays by the Nittany Lions squashed the chances.

The Frogs were finally able to capitalize in the third. With a runner on and two out,Josh Watson lined his 10th home run over the right center field fence to put the Frogs on top, 2-0.

Penn State got a run back in the bottom of the inning as it took advantage of a pair of walks to open the inning. Tyler Kendall hit a sacrifice fly to make it a 2-1 ballgame. Another walk in the fourth scored on a two-out hit to tie the game.

TCU rallied back with a three-spot in the fifth to open up a 5-2 lead. Cam Warnerwalked and moved to third on an Evan Skoug base hit. Luken Baker put the Frogs back on top with a base hit. A wild pitch and a double from Elliott Barzilli drove in two more.

Penn State again battled back to tie the game at five. A home run in fifth made it a 5-3 game and two runs in the seventh knotted the game at five.

Similar to game two, the Frogs fought back to regain the lead in the eighth. Ryan Merrill doubled with one out and never stopped running as Cam Warner legged out an infield single. A low throw to first allowed Merrill to score, giving TCU a 6-5 lead.

TCU tacked on three more runs in the ninth on RBIs from Watson, Dane Steinhagenand Merrill to make it a 9-5 game.

Preston Guillory (2-1) picked up the win in relief, tossing 2 2/3 scoreless innings.Mitchell Traver made his season debut, allowing one hit, one walk and striking out three in two innings.

With the win, TCU improves to 33-12 overall. The Horned Frogs will make a brief stop at Lupton Stadium for a Tuesday night contest against Stephen F. Austin. First pitch is slated for 6:30 p.m.
