GoFrogs: TCU Baseball’s Rally Falls Short In Sunday’s Loss
An eight-run third-inning for Oklahoma State proved too much for TCU to overcome in an 11-7 loss on Sunday.
The Rundown
TCU had early chances to crack the scoreboard in the first three innings, but left two on in the second and three on in the third.
Oklahoma State loaded the bases in its half of the third and made it count. A hit batter gave the Cowboys the 1-0 lead. Four straight hits followed as the Cowboys opened up an 8-0 lead. The big blow was a three-run home run from Perry Costello.
Dane Steinhagen’s fifth home run of the season in the fourth got the Frogs on the board, but OSU responded with a two-spot in the fifth to make it a 10-1 game.
The Frogs made noise in the sixth as they pushed across four runs on just two hits.Luken Baker led off the inning with a double. A walk and a hit batter loaded the bases.Connor Wanhanen beat out a potential double play ball to drive in a run. Steinhagen followed with a double and a wild pitch plated another run. A Ryan Merrill sacrifice fly made it a 10-5 game.
TCU brought the tying run to the plate in the seventh. With two outs, Baker started a rally with his third hit of the game. The Frogs loaded the bases and Wanhanen made it a 10-6 game as he beat out an infield single. Facing the tying run, the Cowboys closer came up with a strikeout to end the inning.
OSU restored its five-run lead with a lead-off home run in the bottom of the seventh and the Frogs pushed across a run in the eighth on a Cam Warner single to account for the final score.
