DMN: TCU’s three major position battles come on offensive side

Though TCU had some solid performances at its spring game, there are still some major question marks at key positions for the Horned Frogs, especially on the offensive side of the ball. Fortunately TCU has multiple options at these spots. These are position battles that could last a long time.

Here are three key position battles for TCU heading into the 2016 season:

Quarterback: Could you really start anywhere else? The loss of Trevone Boykin is a tough one for TCU to overcome. But TCU was well-prepared for this possibility. This is a two-horse race between redshirt sophomore Foster Sawyer and Texas A&M transfer Kenny Hill. Sawyer got some random snaps last season but nothing significant. Hill showed flashes of brilliance early in his Aggie career but got benched by Kevin Sumlin after he hit a rough patch before Hill started the exodus of A&M quarterbacks. To some eyes Sawyer looked better than Hill at the spring game but not by much. This is a race that will last deep into the summer as Patterson and his offensive coordinators won’t want to make the wrong decision. …
