GoFrogs: Notes on a Scorecard

BIG 12 CHAMPIONS!
We’re very proud of our men’s tennis program clinching at least a share of its first Big 12 championship with Wednesday night’s 4-0 victory over Baylor! Congratulations to head coach David Roditi, his staff and student-athletes! We’ll go for the outright title when we head to Lubbock this weekend for a Sunday 1 p.m. match at Texas Tech.

NATIONAL RUNNERS-UP!

How about our equestrian program! It truly made history at the National Championships last weekend in Waco. We became the lowest seed (6) to reach the championship match where we battled No. 1 Auburn before dropping an 8-7 decision to finish second nationally. It was the second national runner-up finish in two months for one of our sports as rifle placed second at the NCAA Championships.

TICKET UPDATES

We have plenty of news to report from our Athletics Ticket Office. CLICK HERE to make a $100 deposit for men’s basketball season tickets. As you know, there’s a great bit of excitement around our program with the return of Jamie Dixon.

The football season ticket and upgrade process will begin May 2. Season-ticket holders who requested to be included should receive an email next week with their selection date and time based on priority rank. New football season tickets will be on sale beginning the first week of June. STUDENT-ATHLETE SPEAKER SERIES

TCU Athletics is very proud of a new speaker series initiative by our Student-Athlete Development Office. For the inaugural event, we collaborated with the Peace Corps and featured seven international student-athletes from countries with a Peace Corps presence. The student-athletes had an opportunity to talk about their countries and the path that brought them to TCU. They also shared photos from home. The event was held at the Dee J. Kelly Alumni & Visitors Center and was open to the public. The following student-athletes participated in the event:

Seda Arantekin, Women’s Tennis (Turkey)
Sofiko Kadzhaya, Women’s Tennis (Ukraine)
Lamprini Konstantinidou, Volleyball (Greece)
Jerry Lopez, Men’s Tennis (Mexico)
Facundo Lugones, Men’s Tennis (Argentina)
Aiche Ndao, Women’s Basketball (Senegal)
Cosmas Rutto, Men’s Track and Field (Kenya)

FROGS GOING PRO

Congratulations to Neeley School of Business student and women’s basketball student-athlete Zahna Medley on signing with the WNBA’s San Antonio Stars! Zahna is TCU’s all-time leading scorer, men’s or women’s basketball, with 1,975 points. She’s also the only TCU women’s basketball player in history to be a three-time first-team all-conference selection. She was unanimous All-Big 12 this season.

NAME THE MOVIE QUOTE

Last Week’s Answer: A very young Kevin Bacon, as Chip Diller in “Animal House,” said to Douglas C. Neidermeyer, “Thank you, sir! May I have another?”

This Week’s Question: “Where’d you get that jacket?”

COMPLIANCE CORNER

The athletic trainers at Ocean State University (OSU) would like to have all of the 2015-16 NLI signees undergo the required mandatory medical exams prior to arriving on OSU’s campus for summer school and/or preseason practice.

Can OSU pay the expenses associated with these exams?

Yes with conditions. NCAA Staff Interpretation – 3/23/16 – Staff Interpretation – Expenses Related to Mandatory Medical Examination and Sickle Cell Solubility Test (I) – states that an institution may pay the cost of a mandatory medical exam or sickle cell solubility test for a prospective student-athlete who has signed a National Letter of Intent or the institution’s written offer of admission and/or financial aid or after the institution has received his or her financial deposit in response to its offer of admission.
