GoFrogs: Baseball Quartet On Midseason Watch Lists

FORT WORTH – Four members from the fourth-ranked TCU baseball team have earned a spot on national award watch lists as the season has hit its midpoint. Luken Baker is on three watch lists, while Elliott Barzilli, Dalton Horton and Brian Howard are all on one watch list.

Luken Baker was added to USA Baseball’s Golden Spikes Award watch list in addition to being named to the College Baseball Hall of Fame’s John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year watch list and the CBHOF National Pitcher of the Year award watch list.

Baker has put together a dynamic freshman campaign both on the mound and at the plate. He is hitting .344 at the plate and is tied for the team lead with 36 RBIs. On the mound, Baker is 3-1 with a 1.75 ERA in nine starts.

Barzilli paces the Big 12 with his .422 batting average and 54 total hits on the season. He leads the league with 18 multi-hit games and has reached base in all but three games played this season.

Two other Horned Frogs were added to the College Baseball Hall of Fame’s National Pitcher of the Year watch list in Brian Howard andDalton Horton.

Howard has made a smooth transition into the starting rotation after spending his first two seasons on campus as a reliever. In eight starts this season, Howard is 5-1 with a 2.79 ERA in a team-leading 48 1/3 innings pitched. He paces the team with 44 strikeouts and is holding opponents to a .219 average against.

Horton has made an immediate impact in the starting rotation this season. The freshman is 6-0 in eight appearances on the mound. In 40 2/3 innings pitched, Horton boasts a 1.99 ERA and is holding opponents to a .201 batting average against.

TCU (27-8, 9-3 Big 12) returns to the diamond Friday night at Oklahoma State. First pitch against the Cowboys is set for 6 p.m. at Allie P. Reynolds Field.
