GoFrogs: W. Golf Places Three on Academic All-Big 12 Team

IRVING, Texas — Three TCU women’s golfers have received First-Team Academic All-Big 12 accolades.

Alexia Heist, Emmy Martin and Kelly McGovern were cited with McGovern receiving special recognition for her 4.0 grade-point average.

Heist is a senior marketing major from El Paso, Texas. She’s in her first year with TCU women’s golf after four seasons as a student-athlete in the Horned Frogs’ volleyball program. Heist was one of eight volleyball players in Big 12 history to be a three-time first-team Academic All-Big 12 honoree.

Martin has played in seven of eight tournaments for the Horned Frogs this season. The sophomore nutrition major from Odessa, Fla., has posted a pair of top-12 finishes in 2015-16.

McGovern, one of three Horned Frogs to play in all eight tournaments, is second on TCU with a 74.5 stroke average. She was the runner-up at the Golfweek Conference Challenge while tying for third at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic. McGovern is a finance major from The Woodlands, Texas. She was also a first-team Academic All-Big 12 recipient last season.

TCU returns to action Friday when it begins play at the Big 12 Championship in San Antonio.
