Abilene Reporter-News: ACU hopes to take down No. 9 TCU on Tuesday in Abilene

Since making the jump to Division I three years ago, Abilene Christian has played some of the top-ranked teams in the country, but has yet to knock one off. The Wildcats will get another chance against one of college baseball’s best when they take on No. 9 Texas Christian at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Crutcher Scott Field.
ACU (13-21 overall) has a young, inexperienced team, and it shows in the Wildcats’ record. Five of those losses have come against nationally ranked teams, including a three-game sweep at No. 27 Oklahoma State (8-2, 16-0, 8-4) in mid March. ACU also has losses to No. 3 Texas A&M (10-4) and TCU (6-4). They’ve also lost to Oklahoma (7-1).
However, the Wildcats’ biggest win of the season came at home, when they knocked off Dallas Baptist 3-2 on Aaron Draper’s bunt single in the ninth. Nate Cole allowed just a run on six hits in seven innings in the start against DBU and didn’t figure in the decision. Cole (1-4, 4.28 ERA) is scheduled to start against the Horned Frogs, who are hitting .316 as a team and averaging 8.1 runs per game. …
