GoFrogs: Books Leads While Barjon, TCU in Second
EL MACERO, Calif. — TCU’s Ryan Books, playing as an individual, fired a 2-under par 70 Saturday to take the overall lead after Day Two at the El Macero Classic hosted by UC Davis.
Books, who entered the day tied for second, tallied 15 straight pars before carding birdies on two of the final three holes to take a two-shot lead over teammate Paul Barjon and Texas Tech’s Ivan Ramirez heading into Sunday’s final round.
Barjon vaulted up the leaderboard after firing a 3-under-par 69. Barjon, who has two wins this season, entered the day tied for 14th, went 5-under on the back nine to the par-72, 6,805-yard El Macero Country Club with four straight birdies on holes 12-15 and finished the round with a birdie on the par-5 18th.
As a team, the Horned Frogs entered the second round tied for third with UC Davis and one shot out of second behind Oregon State. When the day ended, the Frogs carded the only round in the field at even par to moved into sole possession of second place, seven shots ahead of third-place UC Davis and just six shots back of Texas Tech.
Behind Books and Barjon, Giulio Castagnara is tied for 10th after a second-round 75, while Pierre Mazier and Steffano Mazzoli are tied for 22th and 30th, respectively, after shooting even-par 72s. Chelso Barrett (79) is tied for 50th. Playing as individuals, Sarosh Adi, after an even-par 72, is tied for 41st and Turner MacLean (75) is tied for 42nd.
Final-round action gets underway Sunday at 7 a.m. PT.
