FORT WORTH, Texas -Â In only its second weekend at home this season, the TCU beach volleyball team scored two wins on the opening day of the Cowtown Classic with a 5-0 sweep of ULM and a 3-2 victory over New Mexico on Friday.
The Horned Frogs (16-5) opened the day by picking up their 10th sweep of the season when they recorded a 5-0 victory over the Warhawks (9-14). TCU then went to battle with the Lobos (16-5) and gutted out a 3-2 win in the final match of the day.
Three pairs went undefeated on the day starting with the top pair of Michelle McNamee and Sarita Mikals. The duo moved up to 15-6 on the season after defeating Hope Pawlik and Taylor Zaeske of ULM, 21-12, 21-17, before outlasting Cassie House and Ashley Kelsey of New Mexico, 31-29, 21-18.
The No. 3 pair of Jaelyn Greene and Jillian Bergeson and the No. 5 pair of Ariah Palter and Molly Scheel both moved up to 17-4 on the season with the two wins on Friday. Greene and Bergeson topped Kaitlyn Shearer and Delaney Driver of ULM, 21-16, 21-17, while Palter and Scheel downed Claire Crossfield and Tara Jenkings, 21-11, 21-9. Greene and Bergeson needed three sets to defeat Julia Warren and Hannah Johnson of New Mexico (21-19, 17-21, 15-12), while Palter and Scheel easily handled Carson Heilborn and Maddie Mayfield (21-8, 21-11).
