FORT WORTH, Texas - Coming down to the final singles court, the No. 28 TCU women’s tennis team could not convert as No. 35 Texas took a 4-3 decision on Sunday afternoon at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center in the home finale of the 2016 season.

The Horned Frogs (11-4, 3-2 Big 12) took the doubles point and then two of the first three singles matches to finish to go up 3-1 in the match, but the Longhorns (12-6, 4-2 Big 12) capitalized by taking the final three matches to steal the win from TCU.

Doubles action was completely in TCU’s favor, as the Frogs went up multiple breaks on every court. Olaya Garrido-Rivas and Mia Kingfinished first on court three by downing Chelsea Crovetti and Katie Poluta, 6-2. Just moments later, the No. 34 pair of Seda Arantekinand Caroline Wegner upset the No. 11 duo of Breaunna Addison and Danielle Wagland, 6-1, for the pair’s second win this season over a ranked foe.

Aleksandra Zenovka easily put TCU up 2-0 in the match with a straight-set downing of Daniella Roldan, 6-3, 6-0. Texas scored a win on court one to get its first point of the match, but Garrido-Rivas took a straight-set 6-3, 6-4 win over Poluta on court four to give the Frogs a 3-1 lead. After the Longhorns took the match on court six, the final two courts were going to be decided in the third set. Texas proved to have the final momentum as they took the wins on both courts and the overall match victory.

Quotes of the Matches
Head Coach Lee Taylor Walker
“I was really happy about how we extended our leads quickly in doubles today. It was a good lesson learned from Friday and we applied it today. It was a huge win for Seda and Caroline in doubles as well and I think they are getting better and better each week. They’ve identified their strengths and are playing them well and managing the match great.

“In singles, it was a combination of slow starts, Texas playing well and just them being more clutch than us at the end. The next two matches will be identical to these last two in terms of level of competition. Overall, this weekend had two great college tennis matches that are disappointing to lose, but it’s going to make us better and we will be ready for Oklahoma and Oklahoma State next weekend.”
