GoFrogs: W. Tennis Suffers Loss to Baylor

Final Stats

FORT WORTH, Texas – The No. 28 TCU women’s tennis team suffered its first conference loss of the season, as they dropped a 4-2 decision to No. 51 Baylor on Friday night inside the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.

The Horned Frogs (11-3, 3-1 Big 12) scored the first doubles win against the Bears (10-12, 3-2 Big 12) as the No. 34 pair of Seda Arantekin and Caroline Wegner downed Blair Shankle and Theresa Van Zyl, 6-2, but Baylor would even up the match with a win on court three. The doubles point would come down to a tiebreaker on court two, as Baylor came out on top, 7-4, to steal the doubles point and take the early lead.

The Bears quickly went up 2-0 in the match by taking the victory on court five in singles until Arantekin stormed back to take her match on court three, 6-2, 0-6, 6-1 to give the Frogs their first point of the match. Alexis Pereira evened out the match at 2-2 with a 6-3, 1-6, 6-2 win on court six, but Baylor closed out the match with two wins at the top two positions to seal the victory and upset TCU.

Quotes of the Matches
Head Coach Lee Taylor Walker
“I give Baylor a lot of credit tonight. They’ve played a great schedule and have come up short a lot this year, but today they hit the ball like they had nothing to lose and played well down the stretch. We had a couple moments early in doubles we could’ve buried them and set the tone for the match. We didn’t capitalize then and it was a battle from then on. I’m proud of the effort we had and fight until the end. We just need to clean up a few situational points and get more committed to our system. We will do that on Sunday and be ready for a solid Texas team.”
