GoFrogs: W. Tennis Suffers Loss to Baylor
FORT WORTH, Texas – The No. 28 TCU women’s tennis team suffered its first conference loss of the season, as they dropped a 4-2 decision to No. 51 Baylor on Friday night inside the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.
The Horned Frogs (11-3, 3-1 Big 12) scored the first doubles win against the Bears (10-12, 3-2 Big 12) as the No. 34 pair of Seda Arantekin and Caroline Wegner downed Blair Shankle and Theresa Van Zyl, 6-2, but Baylor would even up the match with a win on court three. The doubles point would come down to a tiebreaker on court two, as Baylor came out on top, 7-4, to steal the doubles point and take the early lead.
The Bears quickly went up 2-0 in the match by taking the victory on court five in singles until Arantekin stormed back to take her match on court three, 6-2, 0-6, 6-1 to give the Frogs their first point of the match. Alexis Pereira evened out the match at 2-2 with a 6-3, 1-6, 6-2 win on court six, but Baylor closed out the match with two wins at the top two positions to seal the victory and upset TCU.

They’ve played a great schedule and have come up short a lot this year, but today they hit the ball like they had nothing to lose and played well down the stretch. We had a couple moments early in doubles we could’ve buried them and set the tone for the match. We didn’t capitalize then and it was a battle from then on. I’m proud of the effort we had and fight until the end. We just need to clean up a few situational points and get more committed to our system. We will do that on Sunday and be ready for a solid Texas team.”
