GoFrogs: TCU’s Rally Falls Short Wednesday Night

Warner hits third home run of the season

Final Stats

FORT WORTH – TCU’s five-game winning streak came to an end Wednesday night as it dropped a 4-3 decision to UT Arlington at Lupton Stadium. Cam Warner hit his third home run of the season in the loss.

The Rundown
In his first career start, Sean Wymer tossed two shutout innings. Despite allowing four hits, he fanned five batters and got help on a solid defensive play from Elliott Barzilli to end the second inning. With a runner on third and two out, Barzilli nipped the runner at home trying to score the game’s first run.

A lead-off single followed by a throwing error had two on and nobody out for the Mavericks in the third. Brady Cox broke the scoreless tie with a three-run home run to left center.

The Maverick lead grew to four in the seventh as they put together a two-out rally. Three consecutive hits loaded the bases and a passed ball allowed the fourth run of the game to score.

TCU’s bats came to life in the eighth as it tried to climb back in the game. Connor Wanhanen led off the frame with a base hit. Two batters later, Austen Wade lined a single to left center to put runners on the corners. Cam Warner brought the Frogs within one, 4-3, with a line drive home run over the left field fence.

The rally fell short as the Mavericks pitched around a one-out single from Barzilli to avoid the season sweep.

Rex Hill (2-2) took the loss, allowing three runs (two earned) on two hits in his lone inning of work. Ryan Burnett tossed two scoreless frames. Drew Gooch was tagged with an unearned run in 1 2/3 innings, while Preston Guillory retired four of the five batters he faced. Durbin Feltman fanned two in his lone inning of work.
