FORT WORTH, Texas – Wrapping up the nonconference slate, the No. 2 TCU men’s tennis team earned sweep No. 8 this season and its 25th consecutive win at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center with a 7-0 blanking of No. 25 SMU on Wednesday night.

The 13th consecutive victory of the season for the Horned Frogs (18-2) started with a dominant doubles performance, as the No. 82 ranked pair of Hudson Blake and Reese Stalder crushed the Mustangs (19-6) duo of Nate Lammons and Markus Kerner, 6-0. Seconds later, Alex Rybakov and Cameron Norrie remained undefeated and moved up to 6-0 on the season with a 6-1 win over Arkadijs Slobodkins and Tony Russell, to secure the team’s third straight doubles point of the season.

Norrie and Rybakov carried the momentum into singles, as the duo were the first two off the courts at the top two positions. No. 3 Norrie earned his 13th win over a ranked foe with a 6-3, 6-4 downing of No. 82 Nate Lammons, while No. 16 Rybakov topped No. 48 Hunter Johnson, 6-4, 6-1. Trevor Johnson clinched the overall match victory from court six, as the sophomore scored win No. 19 this season with a 6-1, 7-6(7) victory over Yates Johnson.

With the match already secured in TCU’s favor, the final three courts finished out their matches with the Frogs picking up three more victories for the day. Eduardo Nava came back from dropping the first set to defeat Markus Kerner on court four, 2-6, 6-4, 6-4. Jerry Lopez then wrapped up his match on court five with a 6-1, 7-6(4) victory over Ronald Slobodchikov. No. 61 Guillermo Nuñez used a super tiebreaker third set to finish out the match, as the sophomore defeated Samm Butler, 6-7(8), 6-4, 10-3.

Quotes of the Match
Head Coach David Roditi
“This was just a great performance. To beat a team like SMU with all the rivalry and emotions here and to beat them 7-0 means there is nothing else to say but great performance. At the end of the day, we played the best doubles we have played all year and we kept the streak alive. Some of our guys came back from a set down and the way that Eduardo Nava played the first set and for him to come back and win that match shows a lot of character on his part in how much he hates to lose. He put the ego aside and started making balls and started playing some really good tennis. The way that Trevor Johnson closed out that tiebreaker was a really huge part of the match and I am happy that our guys found a way to come through with the win.

“Now we have Big 12s and this is what we have been getting ready for. We have Oklahoma on Friday and we haven’t beaten them in forever so it will be an exciting match and then we have Oklahoma State on Sunday. I hope every person that has been waiting to come out to watch a match will come out on Friday and Sunday. It is a good time for our program right now.”
