The Wichita Eagle: No. 8 TCU finishes sweep of Wichita State, helped by Shockers’ defensive breakdowns

After Saturday’s game, TCU’s Dalton Horton strolled through the Shockers working on the field, took the mound and prepared for his Sunday start with a few practice windups at Eck Stadium.

“I just wanted to step on the mound and get a feel for the stadium,” he said.

When Horton exited Sunday’s game, it was clear he felt quite comfortable at Eck Stadium, as did the rest of his teammates. The eighth-ranked Horned Frogs swept the series with a 12-5 victory over Wichita State with Horton, a freshman lefty, allowing one run in six innings and the Frogs again battering Wichita State pitchers.

“They hit line drives and took the extra base every time,” Wichita State coach Todd Butler said. “It’s throwing strikes. It’s not walking a leadoff guy. A good offensive team is going to take advantage. Here comes a home run, a double and they just keep circling.” …
