Skoug homers, Baker drives in four

WICHITA, Kan. – A six-run fifth inning broke open a close game and TCU cruised to a 12-5 victory over Wichita State, completing its second sweep of the season. The victory pushes TCU’s winning streak to five games.

The Rundown
The Horned Frogs rode a solid pitching performance from Dalton Horton and backed him up with 12 runs. The freshman, making his first career weekend start, allowed a run on two hits, walked one and struck out four to improve to 4-0. He retired the final seven batters he faced.

TCU opened up the scoring in the third inning as it took advantage of a one-out triple from Ryan Merrill. Austen Wade put the Frogs on top with a sacrifice fly.

The teams traded home runs in the fourth. Evan Skoug launched his third of the season, while Gunnar Troutwine delivered his fourth of the campaign to make it a 2-1 game heading to the fifth.

The Horned Frogs sent 11 men to the plate in the fifth and broke the game open with six runs on six hits. Connor Wanhanen led off the inning with a hit and scored from first on a double from Dane Steinhagen. Cam Warner doubled home the second run of the inning.

After an intentional walk to Skoug loaded the bases, Luken Baker cleared them with a double to left center. He scored on an Elliott Barzilli base hit to push the lead to seven, 8-1.

TCU opened up a double-digit lead in the eighth with four runs on three hits. With the bases loaded, Skoug picked up his second RBI of the day. After a ground out drove in the second run of the frame, Barzilli doubled home two more for a 12-2 lead.

Wichita State pushed across three runs in the ninth to account for the final score.
