FORT WORTH, Texas – For the first time this season, the No. 35 TCU women’s tennis team bounced back from dropping the doubles point to claim four straight singles matches and defeat Kansas State, 4-1, on Sunday afternoon at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.

Playing in their fourth match in a six-day time frame, the Horned Frogs (11-2, 3-0 Big 12) fell in doubles action after a tiebreaker on court one for the point against the Wildcats (8-9, 0-4 Big 12), but stormed back in singles to win their ninth straight match of the season and third consecutive in conference action.

Alexis Pereira put TCU on the board after claiming a 6-1, 6-2 victory on court six for the sophomore’s 16th win this season and seventh in a row. The last three points would take time, as all the other courts were headed into the third and decisive sets. Point No. 2 would come courtesy of Caroline Wegner on court three, as the junior also picked up her seventh straight win by topping Millie Stretton, 6-2, 4-6, 6-3. Olaya Garrido-Rivas followed moments later by taking down Iva Bago on court four, 6-4, 3-6, 6-1.

The clincher would come for the second match in a row from sophomore Aleksandra Zenovka who scored her team best 19th victory of the season from court five with a 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 downing of Livia Cirnu.

Quotes of the Matches
Head Coach Lee Taylor Walker
“I think that was a lot of matches in six days. I give the girls a lot of credit because we had four matches in six days and the girls came through 4-0. I am really proud of them. I think what we have learned as a team in this stretch is that whether the team is ranked No. 30 in the country or not ranked, ever team is a good team. They will always come ready to play. I am very happy in how the girls responded after losing the doubles point. That is the first time we have lost the doubles point this year and come back and won the match. We needed to experience that.”
