Horned Frogs Close Out Islanders

Final Stats

FORT WORTH, Texas – Continuing its winning ways, the TCU beach volleyball team closed out competition in Corpus Christi by sweeping Texas A&M Corpus Christi for the third time this season, 5-0, on Sunday morning for the team’s fifth straight win of the season.

The Horned Frogs (12-4) took all five matches on the beach volleyball courts inside the Dugan Family Track and Soccer Stadium on the campus of Texas A&M Corpus Christi in straight sets over the Islanders (1-8).

Ariah Palter and Molly Scheel were first off the court as the pair earned win No. 13 this season by topping Morgan Williams and Madeleine Doud, 21-7, 21-5. Jordan Terral and Blaire Pickens scored win No. 3 this weekend by defeating Ivy Baresh and Mallory Moran on court four, 21-15, 21-10, to give the Frogs a 2-0 lead in the match.

In the second set of matches, Jaelyn Greene and Jillian Bergeson also earned win No. 13 on the season by taking down Madison Woods and Kristyn Nicholson, 21-3, 21-10, to put TCU up 3-0 in the match and secure the overall win. Sarita Mikals and Michelle McNamee were the next to finish with a 21-7, 21-14 victory on court one, before Shane Peters and Olivia Canales finished off the sweep with a 21-11, 21-13 win on court two.

Quotes from the Match
Head Coach Erik Peterson
“I think we went out and we really executed very well. That is what I continue to challenge the team to do is to go ahead and get out of their comfort zone and try some different things. Yesterday, we had some pretty good challenges with the wind and I think we took advantage of that and we played into the wind and really were able to score points and get some of the teams uncomfortable. Today, we had pretty much ideal conditions so we set the tone from the service line and we did a really good job of getting out of our comfort zone. We took a look on serve receive and transitioned to the open spots and we went out and really executed putting the ball where the other team wasn’t. We were able to score and create some separation today.”
