GoFrogs: TCU Goes Undefeated on Saturday

Houston Baptist Final Stats | Texas A&M Corpus Christi Final Stats

FORT WORTH, Texas – Continuing its dominant streak against teams from Texas, the TCU beach volleyball team scored two 5-0 sweeps over Houston Baptist and Texas A&M Corpus Christi on Saturday in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Playing on the beach volleyball courts inside the Dugan Family Track and Soccer Stadium on the campus of Texas A&M Corpus Christi, the Horned Frogs (11-4) earned straight-set victories on all five courts to open the day against the Huskies (3-4). TCU carried the momentum into the final match against the Islanders (1-7) and picked up win No. 11 and sweep No. 8 of the season with the final victory of the day.

Pairing for the first time this season, Blaire Pickens and Jordan Terral scored two wins on Saturday beginning with a 21-15, 21-14 straight-set sweep of Kayla Armer and Laura Fox of Houston Baptist. The duo then came back from dropping the opening set against Ivy Baresh and Mallory Moran of Texas A&M Corpus Christi, 21-18, to dominate the second frame, 21-8. The pair then had to battle point-for-point in the final set to help complete the sweep with a 17-15 win.

Three pairs are now at the double-digit win mark this season, with Jillian Bergeson and Jaelyn Greene along with Ariah Palter and Molly Scheel sitting at 12-3. At the top position, Michelle McNamee and Sarita Mikals scored two victories on Saturday to move up to 10-5 this season. Palter and Scheel own the team’s longest winning streak at seven straight matches, while Bergeson and Greene have notched four consecutive victories.

Quotes from the Matches
Head Coach Erik Peterson
“I am really pleased with the competitive effort we came out with today. I thought we really got after it from the first point to the last. With it being the second time playing both of these schools, we understood that we had to try and come out to the courts and set the tone. For the other teams in the state of Texas, we have a big target on our backs so we knew we were going to get their `A’ game once the whistle was blown.

“This was the first time this season where we really saw a venue with a true good side and true bad side. I think we really went out and showed how comfortable we were in the wind and were able to use it to our advantage.”
