GoFrogs: TCU Tops Men’s Tennis Preseason Poll

IRVING, Texas – For the first time in conference history, the No. 2 TCU men’s tennis team has been selected as the Big 12 tennis preseason favorites on the men’s side. The Horned Frogs collected four of the six top votes en route to the number one spot in the poll.

“We knew we had a good team and our guys have been doing well,” head coach David Roditi said. “It is a nice recognition by our Big 12 coaches and we have the toughest tennis conference in the nation so any team in our conference can win it. Our team is doing everything we can control in preparing for conference play. This conference season will be an exciting one to follow.”

Defending Big 12 champion Oklahoma slotted in a second, while Oklahoma State and Texas Tech tied for third. Texas came in at fifth, while Baylor closed out the rankings in sixth. Both Oklahoma and Texas Tech also received a vote in the number one position.

Conference coaches place their votes prior to the start of league play to determine the preseason favorite, but cannot vote for their own team in the poll.

The Horned Frogs have opened the 2015-16 season with an impressive 15-2 record, with the team currently riding a 10-match winning streak and 22-match winning streak at home. The team has faced 16 ranked opponents this season, posting a 14-2 record against the foes. TCU is coming off a 25-8 2014-15 campaign, which saw the squad put up a 15-0 home record and a run to the Final Four in the NCAA Team Championships.

Oklahoma slides in at second, starting off the season with an 8-7 record. All but one team the Sooners have faced this season is ranked, with 11 polling in the top 30. The team finds themselves ranked No. 14 nationally, with two individuals and two duos ranked in the top 50.

Oklahoma State currently slots in at No. 5 nationally, while Texas Tech ranks ninth. The Cowboys currently hold a 16-2 record, as the Red Raiders boast a 21-3 mark. The 19th ranked Longhorns check in at 12-6, while the Bears post an 11-8 record.

TCU will begin conference action with Oklahoma on Friday, April 8 at 5:30 p.m., at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.
