GoFrogs: TCU Notches Two Wins on Tuesday

Louisiana Tech Final Stats | San Jose State Final Stats

FORT WORTH, Texas – Wrapping up its nonconference slate at home, the No. 35 TCU women’s tennis team scored two shutout victories as they swept No. 70 Louisiana Tech and San Jose State, 4-0, on Tuesday during a doubleheader at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.

The Horned Frogs (9-2) bumped their winning streak up to seven straight matches and picked up their fifth and sixth sweeps of the season. TCU also improved to 8-1 in matches played on the Bernard J. `Tut’ Bartzen Varsity Courts this season.

TCU opened the day against the Lady Techsters (13-4) and picked up the doubles point after the final two courts went to a tiebreaker. The Frogs finished off the sweep with Olaya Garrido-Rivas, Aleksandra Zenovka and Marie Norris all taking their matches in singles in straight sets.

After splitting the bottom two doubles matches, the No. 27 ranked pair of Seda Arantekin and Caroline Wegner claimed the seventh straight doubles point for TCU with a 7-5 win on court one against Spartans (8-6) in the final match of the day. Wegner and Alexis Pereira picked up straight set singles wins to put the Frogs up 3-0, before Garrido-Rivas claimed her fourth win of the day to seal the sweep and give TCU its second victory of the day.

Quotes of the Matches
Head Coach Lee Taylor Walker
“First of all, I just want to thank everybody for the last minute adjustment to our doubleheader. I know our whole staff made a lot of adjustments because I didn’t realize we were going to have both of these matches today. In the last five days I thought our team really reset and focused to host two good teams today. We thought it was going to be just Louisiana Tech because we had the other team scheduled for another time, but both matches fell today. We were happy to host both teams and I thought our team handled it well. There was a lot of tennis played today in the middle of the season, but we got out of it with two 4-0 wins so that was good.”
