GoFrogs: Offensive Surge Leads No. 6 TCU To Victory

Final Stats

ARLINGTON, Texas – No. 6 TCU’s bats came to life in a 17-4 rout of UT Arlington Tuesday night at Clay Gould Ballpark. Cam Warner notched a career-high four hits and Josh Watson connected on his fifth home run of the season.

The Rundown
TCU found itself facing a 2-0 deficit heading into the third. With Cam Warner and Evan Skoug on base with two outs, Elliott Barzilli lined a single into right field to cut the lead in half. A wild pitch tied the game at two. Josh Watson’s two-run home run to left gave the Frogs a lead they would never relinquish. Connor Wanhanen scored on a Dane Steinhagen base hit to make it a 5-2 game after three.

Skoug doubled home Austen Wade in the fourth and Warner came around to score on a Barzilli sacrifice fly to push the lead to five, 7-2, after four.

Another two out rally in the fifth produced six runs. Defensive miscues led to the runs as TCU opened up a 13-2 advantage. With one on and two out, seven straight Horned Frogs reached base. Warner’s fourth hit of the night drove in the first run of the frame. A dropped fly ball in right field cleared the bases and Wanhanen’s two-run double were the key moments in the fame.

UT Arlington picked up a pair of runs in the fifth as it took advantage of the first two batters reaching base. A pair of groundouts drove in the runs to make it a 13-4 game.

Rex Hill exited the game with one out in the fifth inning. The combination of Jared Janczak (3-1), Sean Wymer and Drew Gooch retired all 14 batters they faced. Wymer fanned five in his two innings of work, while Gooch added a pair in his two innings on the mound.

TCU rounded out the scoring in the game with a four-spot in the seventh. Ryan Johnson tallied an RBI double and Wade singled home two more to complete the scoring.

Quote of the Game
Head Coach Jim Schlossnagle

“Obviously, coming back and scoring five runs, all with two outs, after we gave up the two runs was real big. Cam (Warner) had a great night. It was good to see Josh (Watson) swing the bat from the right side of the plate. He’s been working really hard on his approach from both sides, but especially the right side.”

“We are really excited about Sean Wymer. He’s a guy that we have to get in the game more often and (Drew) Gooch as well. Wymer has got a chance to be really special. We’ve seen that now a couple times. We are going to have to start using him more, even though our bullpen been good, we are going to have to find a role for him cause he really special.”
