DMN: Why the opportunity to recruit in Texas drew Jamie Dixon back to TCU

New TCU head basketball coach Jamie Dixon recently went on the Shan and RJ Show on KRLD-AM The Fan. Here are some highlights.

On where his recruiting pipeline will be after having so much success in New York while at Pitt:

“Right here in Texas there’s no question about it. I’m in Fort Worth and we’re out recruiting and hitting the pavement, coaching, working guys out, the whole bit. It’s interesting, guys say, ‘Texas is a hard place, you know. There’s a lot of competition and you gotta go recruit Dallas-Fort Worth area, Houston.’ I was like, ‘New York City, that was not easy either.’ It’s all about people, it’s all about reputation and doing things the right way. It’s a special time for us and we’re excited about it.”

On how much the talent level in Texas improved since Dixon started coaching:

“I hadn’t really thought about that but yeah there’s no question. You just look down the list, the national list, and you see where the guys are ranked and where they’re from. This area here, Fort Worth and Dallas, this is where the place is. That was part of my thought process coming in here. It happened quick so I had to put these things all together. But this is where the players are, more in the south now. I’m going to be honest with you, New York as you mentioned, the talent, the pipeline down there had slowed down. Prep schools came into play, population shifting down to the south. That’s the way things are going so I’m trying to get out in front of it.” …
