Final Stats

AUSTIN, Texas – TCU saw its five-game winning streak come to an end in a 4-3 loss to Texas in the series-opener on Thursday night at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.

The Rundown
Texas jumped out to a 2-0 lead after three innings of play. A lead-off single from Kacy Clemens turned into the first run of the game as the Longhorns played station-to-station baseball. A bunt and two infield singles put Texas in front.

Two errors in the third proved costly as Texas made it a 2-0 game in the third. Tres Barrera scored on a one-out single from Patrick Mathis.

TCU stormed back in the top of the fourth, taking a 3-2 lead. Austen Wade worked a lead-off walk and moved to third on a base hit from Connor Wanhanen. Evan Skougunloaded for his second home run of the season to put the Frogs in front.

The Frogs wiggled off the hook in the fourth as the Longhorns loaded the bases with nobody out. Luken Baker (2-1) got a strikeout and an inning-ending double play to get out of the inning unscathed.

Texas erased the deficit in the bottom of the fifth. With one on and one out, Mathis hit a home run to right center to make it a 4-3 game. The Texas bullpen used five pitchers to preserve the lead.

Jared Janczak pitched a career-high 3 1/3 innings of scoreless baseball in relief of Baker. He allowed just two hits and struck out a career-high seven.
