EL PASO, Texas – TCU’s season came to an end on Thursday night with a 79-71 loss to UTEP in the third round of the 2016 Postseason Women’s NIT in front of 7,024 at the Don Haskins Center.

The Frogs conclude the season with a 18-15 record, posting at least eight wins in Big 12 Conference play for the third consecutive season in just their fourth season as a member of the Big 12 Conference.

Senior Zahna Medley closed out her TCU career with a 20-point performance, adding six assists and five rebounds. She finished her TCU career with 1,975 points, 510 assists and 316 three-point field goals to rank first in points, second in assists and first in three-point field goals.

Senior Veja Hamilton became the 15th member of TCU’s 1,000 point club late in the game and finished her career with 1,002 career points.

TCU built an 11-point lead at 22-11 thanks to an early 7-0 run that saw Caitlin Diaz nail a three-point field goal followed by a basket from Butts and another hoop from Jordan Moore. The Miners answered with six straight to pull within five at 22-17 before the Frogs scored seven straight to go up 29-17 with 9:01 to go in the second quarter on a three from Medley.

UTEP pulled within two at 30-28 before the Frogs reeled off four straight to seemingly squash the Miner spurt of 8-0, but UTEP then scored the final 13 of the half to go up 41-34 on a basket near the buzzer. The 13-0 run came as the Frogs went scoreless over the final 4:47 of the half following Butts’ basket.

In all, TCU shot just 4-of-14 during the second quarter as the Miners used the 13-0 run to gain the seven point halftime edge. TCU missed its final six shots of the half and 2-of-12 to end the half.

The Frogs shot just 2-of-11 in the third quarter as they tried to fight back into the game and UTEP pull away, holding a 17-point lead in the third quarter and a 58-43 lead after 30 minutes of play at 58-43.

• Medley scored in double figures for the 99th time in her career and 28th time this season, matching the best such mark of her career from her sophomore season of 28 such occurrences.

• Medley finishes her career with 316 career three-point field goals, ranking first in TCU history.
• Medley made her 126th career start and is second on the TCU career list behind Helena Sverrisdottir with 127 career starts.
• Junior Jada Butts scored in double figures for the 15th time this season and 19th time in her career.
• Senior Veja Hamilton had 13 points to eclipse the 1,000 career point mark and finished with 1,002 career points.
• Hamilton scored in double figures for the 18th time this season and 46th time in her career. o Hamilton had her fourth career double-double. o Hamilton had her seventh career game in double figures on the boards.
