Barjon in Top 10 in Vegas

LAS VEGAS — TCU senior Paul Barjon was one under par and is eighth on the leaderboard following the opening day of play at the 41st annual Southern Highlands Collegiate in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Barjon carded four first round birdies to shoot an opening round of 71 for the Frogs. It is the fifth time this year that Barjon, a native of France, has opened play with a 71 or better. He already has two top 10 finishes to his credit this season.

The Frogs finished in a tie for 13th following the opening day with a team score of 304, breaking a streak of 12 straight rounds under 300 by the squad.

Following Barjon on the TCU leaderboard was newcomer Stefano Mazzoli, who is tied for 46th at +4. Chelso Barrett shot +5 while Giulio Castagnara shot eight-over par in the opening round. Sarosh Adi rounded out the TCU lineup with a nine-over par opening round.

The event is regularly ranked as the No. 1 tournament in all of collegiate golf in strength of schedule by Golfweek. The tournament field includes Alabama, Arizona State, California, Florida, Illinois, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Oregon, SMU, TCU, Texas, Texas Tech, UCLA, UNLV and USC.

Play continues on Tuesday as the Frogs work towards a 27th consecutive NCAA Regionals appearance this spring.
