FORT WORTH, Texas – TCU trailed by only two down the stretch Saturday afternoon, but in the end couldn’t make enough plays as No. 6 Oklahoma captured a 75-67 decision inside Schollmaier Arena.

Game Rewind
The Horned Frogs, who led for a majority of the first half Saturday, made the nation’s No. 6 ranked team work all day, leading by as many as eight in the opening frame. For the game, TCU outscored the Sooners in the paint, 24-22, while also recording a 24-13 advantage in points off turnovers.

With the loss, the Frogs closed their regular-season at 11-20 overall and 2-16 in league play. Oklahoma improved to 24-6 overall and 12-6 in Big 12 action. The Purple and White will be the No. 10 seed in the 2016 Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship and will face Texas Tech next Wednesday night in Kansas City, Mo.

Brandon Parrish, who only came out of the ballgame a total of 22 seconds Saturday, carried TCU, scoring a team and season-high 20 points on 8-of-16 from the field. Chauncey Collins followed with 12 points, while sophomore Vladimir Brodziansky tallied 10 points on 3-of-6 from the field. On the defensive end, fellow sophomore Malique Trent recorded a career-high six steals in the contest. Trent, who ranks No. 1 in the league in steals and No. 31 in the NCAA, posted the most steals in a game since former Frog Greedy Daniels swiped seven at Fresno State in 2001.

The Sooners were led by All-America candidate Buddy Hield Saturday. The senior scored a game-high 21 points, but did have five turnovers on the day. Jordan Woodard was also in double-figures with 13 points on 4-of-9 from the floor.

Oklahoma opened the second half on a 7-0 run to take a 37-30 lead after leading by only one at the break, but Parrish would have nothing of it, scoring a tough layup at the 16:24 mark to make it 37-32. TCU would continue to push the Sooners a few plays later as Brodziansky got into the act, scoring inside the paint to inch the Frogs even closer at 40-34.

With Oklahoma clinging to a three-point lead at 46-43 midway through, Trent drove the rock to the hole and connected to pull the Purple and White within one at the 9:28 mark. In a back and forth contest the next couple of minutes, TCU cut it to 62-57 at the free throw line with 3:46 left, but it wasn’t until late that the Frogs made things interesting.

With just over a minute to go, JD Miller got a rebound and drilled a three ball to make the scoreboard read 72-67 in slight favor of the Sooners, but a couple key free throws late sealed the game.

TCU jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the contest, but Oklahoma answered with a three from the corner to stall the Horned Frogs run early in the contest until the Frogs pushed it to 8-3 at the line. By the time Parrish threw down a thunderous dunk at the 15:23 mark, TCU had jumped all over the nation’s No. 6 ranked team at 12-5.

With the Horned Frogs clinging to a 14-8 advantage midway through, the two teams would trade buckets back and forth until Brodziansky gave the Purple and White an 18-11 lead off a dish from Parrish with a little over 11 minutes remaining in the opening frame.

With the score knotted at 23-23 with a little over 6 minutes remaining in the first half, Oklahoma would take a three-point lead at 26-23 at the 5:32 mark, but it was short lived as Miller and the Frogs went to work on a mini 4-0 run to take a one-point lead at 27-26 with a little over 3 minutes remaining in the period.

The Sooners were able to halt the Horned Frog attack to take a slight 31-30 lead into intermission.

Quote of the Game
Trent Johnson
“I can’t fault our effort. I mean, obviously we were our own Achilles’ heel at times. But a lot of that had to do with the caliber of team we were playing. We’ve got to find a way to finish this thing off on a positive note in terms of playing good basketball and winning a game.”
