HOUSTON – Two big innings helped No. 13 TCU defeat No. 9 Houston 10-1 on Sunday night. The Horned Frogs concluded play in the Shriner’s Hospital for Children College Classic with a 3-0 record.

The Rundown
Two out runs played a huge role in helping TCU jump out to a 5-0 lead in the third. Mason Hesse doubled to open the frame and scored on a fielder’s choice to make it a 1-0 game. Evan Skoug lined a two-out single into left to make it a 2-0 game and with two on, Josh Watson launched his first career home run over the right field fence.

Houston cut into the TCU lead, picking up a run on two hits before an out was recorded in the fifth inning. Jared Janczak (1-1) face bases loaded with one out situation and battled back to get a strikeout and a ground out to end the threat.

TCU broke the game open in the sixth with a four-spot to push the lead to eight, 9-1. Cam Warner’s two-run single made it a 7-1 game and Luken Baker capped it off with a two-run single of his own.

The Frogs’ final run of the contest came as Skoug and Ryan Johnson traded doubles in the eighth.

Rex Hill started and allowed a run on six hits in four innings of work. Janczak tossed two scoreless, while Preston Guillory, Durbin Feltman and Brian Trieglaff each turned in scoreless frames to close out the game.

Quotes of the Game
Head Coach Jim Schlossnagle

“We’ve had really good pitching for a long time and our pitching is solid this year, but I think the talk about the pitching has overshadowed the offense that I think we have.”

“I thought we settled into the game. Two out hitting was yesterday and it was big today. As soon as they gave us opportunities, we took good advantage of them.”

“I have the luxury of seeing us play all the time and in fall practice, I was worried if we were going to pitch because almost 40% of our hits in intrasquad games went for extra bases.”
