GoFrogs: Spring football begins Friday

The TCU football team returns to the field Friday at 4 p.m. for the start of spring practice.

The Horned Frogs’ 15 practices are set to conclude April 1 with a Spring Game. TCU will have four practices before taking a week off for Spring Break (March 7-11).

TCU returns 18 starters (11 defensive, seven offensive) in 2016. The total includes six starters who suffered season-ending injuries last season.

The Horned Frogs finished 11-2 for their eighth 11-win season in the last 11 years. TCU is 23-3 overall and 15-3 in the Big 12 over the last two seasons.

TCU, after its 47-41 triple-overtime victory over Oregon in the Valero Alamo Bowl, closed the year ranked seventh in season-ending polls by the Associated Press and Amway USA Today Coaches. The Horned Frogs have finished in the top 10 in back-to-back seasons and five times in the last eight years. In 15 seasons under head coach Gary Patterson, TCU has posted six top-10 finishes and 10 in the top 25.

TCU opens the 2016 campaign with a Sept. 3 home game versus South Dakota State. The Horned Frogs also host Arkansas (Sept. 10) and Iowa State (Sept. 17) as they begin the season with three consecutive home dates.
