FORT WORTH — Back when it all still seemed a little surreal, frankly, what with Disney calling TCU and classmates applauding during roll call, the quintessential backup quarterback could have lost his grip. Bram Kohlhausen had matched the greatest comeback in bowl history, and in his first and only start at that. Everyone wanted to know what comes after the fairy tale ending.

The combine?

The NFL?

Just life, it turns out.

“If I didn’t play in that game,” Kohlhausen said last week from TCU, far from Indianapolis and the combine and a future in football, “there’s no way anybody would have thought about all that.

“Realistically, I only played, like, 30 minutes of good football.”

The problem with such a sober assessment is there wasn’t anything realistic at all about the final 30 minutes of TCU’s 47-41 triple-overtime win over Oregon in the Alamo Bowl. Down 31-0 at the half, the Horned Frogs were done. Finished. In the flush of victory, Kohlhausen had said none of the Frogs had harbored any doubts. But seven weeks later, he conceded the only question at the half was how bad it would look. …
