Baker Earns Big 12 Weekly Honor
FORT WORTH – TCU baseball freshman Luken Baker has been tabbed the Big 12 Newcomer of the Week for his efforts in TCU’s series victory over Loyola Marymount this past weekend.
Baker’s debut for the Frogs was a well-rounded effort as the freshman started in all three games, including on the mound in the Loyola Marymount series finale on Sunday.
As the DH in the series, he hit safely in all three games, going 1-for-4 on Friday and Saturday with a run scored in the series opener. Serving as the pitcher/DH on Sunday, Baker made his first collegiate start on the mound and tossed six shutout innings. He allowed just one hit, walked one and struck out six. Along the way, Baker retired the first 10 batters he faced and 15 of the first 16, while allowing just four base runners. At the plate, he helped his cause with a two-run home run in the fifth when TCU was holding a slim 1-0 lead. He finished the game 1-for-3 with the home run and two RBI.
The honor is the first for Baker and the first for the Horned Frogs this season.
TCU returns to the diamond on Wednesday when it plays host to Arkansas-Pine Bluff at 6:30 p.m.
