The annual NFL combine is set to take place later this week in Indianapolis and, as usual, the majority of NFL teams’ personnel departments along with their coaching staffs will all be in attendance. The combine is the first time that teams can sit and “officially†talk with potential prospects in a one-on-one setting.
Of all the on-field drills, performed by the draft prospects at the combine, the 40-yard dash has taken on a life of its own over the years and has become one of the more exciting events for the fans to watch and follow.
The distance for the drill (40 yards) was determined by a group of NFL special teams coaches, as they agreed that an average punt travels roughly 40 yards and players who can run that length the fastest would be good candidates to help their coverage units. …
