FORT WORTH – A two-out base hit from Cam Warner in the third and 6+ shutout innings from Brian Howard helped TCU earn a 1-0 win on Saturday. The victory gives head coach Jim Schlossnagle his 517th career win at TCU, tying Lance Brown for the all-time wins record at TCU.

The Rundown
Howard was on point in his first start of the season, tossing a career-high 6 1/3 shutout innings. He allowed just three hits, walked two and struck out five.

The junior came through with some big pitches. He got a strikeout to end the first with a runner on third, induced an inning-ending double play in the third and pitched out of a two on, nobody out jam in the sixth.

TCU used a little two-out magic to push across the game’s lone run. With two outs, Connor Wanhanen dumped a single into right field and stole second. He was on the move when Warner hit a chopper through the left side, scoring easily for a 1-0 lead.

Preston Guillory came up huge in the seventh as the Lions had two on with one out. He got a ground ball and a foul out to end the inning, stranding the tying run at third. Brian Trieglaff pitched a scoreless ninth to pick up his first career save.

Quotes of the Game
Head Coach Jim Schlossnagle

“It was a really gritty performance from our pitching staff. (Brian) Howard threw more pitches than he had in a long time. (Preston) Guillory hasn’t had the greatest spring, but he’s a guy who has been there and pitched in a lot of big games for us in his short career, he did really well. It was great to see (Brian) Trieglaff come in and throw strikes.”

“It’s a crazy sport. We had almost three times as many hits as they did today and almost twice as many yesterday, but the difference today was not giving up free bases. We held the runners. It was a really well-played game by both teams.”
