DMN: Trevone Boykin’s biggest NFL combine test? Proving the assault that sent him home from the Alamo Bowl is an isolated incident
FORT WORTH – For most of his senior season at TCU, Trevone Boykin thought his biggest chore at the NFL combine would be proving that he can be a pro quarterback.
Everything changed with his arrest for allegedly striking a San Antonio bicycle officer after a bar fight just before TCU faced Oregon in the Valero Alamo Bowl. Following a standout career, Boykin was charged with a third-degree felony for assaulting a public servant, suspended and sent home.
Boykin must persuade NFL teams not to judge him by that moment.
“I was devastated by the whole thing,” Boykin said. “But it’s a mistake that I made in my life that I know I can overcome. … And to show that I can play quarterback, and that this one mistake doesn’t define me.” …
