GoFrogs: TCU Falls to No. 1 Virginia, 4-1

FORT WORTH, Texas – The No. 2 TCU men’s tennis team’s run at the 2016 ITA National Team Indoor Championship came to an end in the semifinals as they dropped a 4-1 decision to No. 1 Virginia on Sunday afternoon at the Boar’s Head Sports Club in Charlottesville, Va.

The Horned Frogs (5-2) battled their way in doubles, but late breaks hurt the team as the Cavaliers (8-0) claimed the doubles point before taking two quick singles wins to go up 3-0 in the match. The lone point for TCU came from No. 6 Cameron Norrie who claimed his eighth victory over a ranked foe with a 7-5, 7-5 win over No. 27 Ryan Shane on court one. One the final three courts in action, TCU was leading in the second sets, but one final break on court four gave No. 78 Mac Styslinger the win over Eduardo Nava, 6-4, 6-4, to give Virginia the overall match win.

“It is disappointing to put yourself in a spot like this and not play up to your abilities. Some had to do with the way Virginia played and a lot had to do with ourselves. We can play better from top to bottom. Cameron (Norrie) had a huge weekend and a great win today. I am proud of our guys fighting back and we just couldn’t overcome that big of a hole. Our young guys learn every match and today was no different. We will get back to work and continue to get better.
