TCU Dominates Second Half Monday Night

FORT WORTH, Texas – It was a tale of two halves Monday night as TCU used a strong second half to drop Oklahoma State inside Schollmaier Arena, 63-56.
The Rundown
The Horned Frogs came out of halftime on fire, connecting on nine of their first 10 shot attempts in the period and never looked back the rest of the way. When it was all said and done, TCU shot a blistering 65.2 percent from the field in the half, including 66.7 percent from behind the arc following intermission.
With the win, the Frogs have now claimed two-straight over the Cowboys at home, while improving to 11-13 overall and 2-9 in Big 12 action. TCU, who held its seventh league foe to under 60 points in the last two years Monday night, has now also won five out of its last 10 conference home games dating back to last season.
Brandon Parrish carried the Frogs Monday. The junior, who scored a key jumper right before halftime, finished the night with a team-high 15 points on 6-of-10 from the field. Chauncey Collins was also in double-figures, tallying 13 points, while Malique Trent totaled 12 points, five boards and four assists. Junior Chris Washburn rounded out the Horned Frog notables, dropping 10 points on 4-of-7 from the field.
Oklahoma State (11-13; 2-9 Big 12) saw Leyton Hammonds score a game-high 16 points, but couldn’t escape 22 turnovers in the contest. TCU held an 18-10 advantage in points in the paint and were able to outscore the Cowboys in points off turnovers, 22-11.
Washburn put the Frogs on the board during the opening possession of the second half, scoring on a turn-around jumper to make it a 25-21 ballgame. The junior would continue to go to work a few plays later, scoring inside the paint to inch the Frogs closer.
With the scoreboard 30-27 in slight favor of Oklahoma State, Trent buried a triple at the 15:58 mark, which ignited the Frogs. Parrish would score on the next two trips and then watch as Collins gave TCU a 36-34 lead with 13:47 on the clock on a layup.
By the time Washburn flew through the air for a massive flush, the Frogs had pushed their advantage to 38-34 midway through the second half. The junior would continue on the attack at about the 10-minute mark, nailing a triple to make the scoreboard read 44-39 in favor of TCU.
With the Frogs clinging to a 50-42 advantage with 7 minute left in the game, Parrish went back to work, scoring on a floater to increase the Purple and White lead to 10.
The Frogs would push it to 12 and never look back the rest of the way.
The two teams opened the contest going back and forth, but TCU was able to jump out to an 8-5 lead in the contest when Trent scored a tough layup on a run-out with 15:57 on the clock. A few plays later, Oklahoma State would take a 12-8 lead before Vladimir Brodziansky tied it at 12-12. A later jumper by Parrish brought the halftime score to 25-19 in slight favor of the Cowboys.
