Daily Oklahoman: Les Miles firing makes Gary Patterson appreciate TCU

TCU’s Gary Patterson has been a phenomenal coach. Built a national-relevant program in his 15 years, after the Frogs went decades with little football success. Patterson has had plenty of opportunities to move to even higher-profile programs. He has not budged. The lesson of Les Miles makes Patterson think he made the right choice.

LSU fired Miles on Sunday after a 2-2 start to his 12th season in Baton Rouge. Nick Saban’s winning percentage at LSU was .750, achieved during an era when Saban was not coaching Alabama. Miles’ winning percentage at LSU was .770, achieved during an era when Saban most certainly was coaching Alabama.

“The guy is a good football coach, won a lot of games,” Patterson said. “He’s been good for LSU. I wish him well. And I wish LSU well. It’s never easy. It’s a tough league, it’s tough to win and they have very high expectations at LSU.
