GoFrogs: Hill and Turpin Receive Big 12 Honors

IRVING, Texas — TCU quarterback Kenny Hill has been named the Big 12 Co-Offensive Player of the Week, while Horned Frogs wide receiver KaVontae Turpin is the conference’s Special Teams Player of the Week.

Hill, making his TCU debut, became the first player with 400 yards passing, two touchdown passes and three rushing scores in a game since Michigan’s Devin Gardner against Indiana in 2013.

Hill’s 439 yards passing and 484 yards of total offense both rank seventh for a single game in TCU history. His 33 completions, in 49 attempts, tied for sixth. He added 45 yards rushing on seven carries with touchdown runs of 4, 6 and 8 yards.

The junior from Southlake Texas, directed a TCU offense that totaled 662 yards.

Turpin had an 81-yard punt return for a touchdown. It was the second of his career, following last year’s 49-yard score versus Kansas.

The 81-yard effort tied for the sixth-longest punt return in TCU history and was the Horned Frogs’ longest since LaVar Veale went 85 yards versus Nevada in 2000.

The sophomore from Monroe, La., needs one more punt return for a touchdown to tie TCU’s career record of three, held by Linzy Cole (1968-69) and Blanard Spearman (1930-32).

Turpin also tied a career high with seven receptions for 62 yards in totaling 177 all-purpose yards (82 punt returns, 62 receiving, 33 rushing). He averaged 17.7 yards each time he touched the ball.
