GoFrogs: Prokof’s OT Winner Gives TCU 2-1 Win
COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Michelle Prokof’s goal in the 99th minute secured TCU’s 2-1 overtime victory over Maryland Friday night. Freshman Katie Lund made three saves in goal to earn her first career victory.
The Rundown
TCU’s speed earned it multiple opportunities in the first half of play. Maryland was whistled for seven fouls, three of which led to golden scoring opportunities for the Horned Frogs.
The Frogs capitalized on its first scoring chance of the game. Emma Heckendorn was hauled down just outside the penalty box to the right of the goal. Prokof’s feed was on the money as she found Brittany Little on the backside. Her header was nudged over the line byMeghan Murphy for the first goal of the season.
Just 55 seconds later, Maryland tied the game. The Terrapins controlled the kick-off and drove into the offensive zone. Jlon Flippes found the head of Chelsea Jackson, who knocked it into the goal.
Katie Lund was the story of the second half as she made a trio of solid saves to keep the game tied at one. In the 79th minute, she dove to her left to make a diving stop on a running shot from Jarena Harmon. On the ensuing corner kick, she corralled another Harmon shot.
In the overtime session, TCU capitalized on a Terrapin miscue. Heckendorn streaked down the left side and fed the ball back to Ryan Williams. Her cross looked to be hauled in by the Terps goalkeeper, but a hard-charging Prokof knocked the ball loose and into the goal for the game-winner.

On the game as a whole:
“I thought in the first half we created some really good scoring opportunities and had the better of the possession. In the second half, they probably had a little bit more of the play than we did. We were able to capitalize in overtime on some of their mishaps and put the ball in the back of the net. It was a hard-fought victory against a quality opponent.
On the play of the goalkeepers:
“I told them both that they did a good job. Obviously, Katie had to come up and make some big saves in the second half. Both of them are doing very well and that’s why we decided to split the time tonight. We’ll see how it goes going forward.â€
“On the offensive production:
“We kind of sputtered in the top of the final third of the box in terms of creating scoring opportunities through the running plays. I though we were really dangerous on the set pieces and that’s one of our mainstays that we concentrate on.â€

• TCU improved to 12-18-1 all-time in season-openers.
• TCU moved to 27-21-45 all-time in overtime contests, including a 3-4-14 mark under head coach Eric Bell.
• TCU has played five straight overtime games dating back to the final four games of the 2015 season.
• Sloane Scharold, Cachet Lue, Katie Lund and Tara Smith made their collegiate debuts.
• Michelle Prokof’s assist on Lauren Sajewich’s goal gave her 52 career points, moving her into sole possession of fifth place all-time. She entered the season tied with Jennifer Thompson (1992-95).
• Prokof also moved into a tie for fourth place with Thompson with her 22nd career goal.
• Prokof’s assist was the 10th of her career, tying her for 10th all-time in program history.
• Meghan Murphy scored her fifth career goal.
